The US has reported 12 coronavirus deaths among at least 232 cases. Here's what we know about the US patients.

The US announced its on Thursday: an elderly woman in King County in Washington state. Ten other coronavirus patients have died in Washington state, and one death in California.

2020欧洲杯体育平台Two of the Washington patients died February 26, but their diagnoses were confirmed posthumously on March 3, making them the earliest known coronavirus fatalities in the US. 

2020欧洲杯体育平台In total, US has confirmed of the coronavirus, which originated in Wuhan, China, in December of last year. 

Forty-six of those cases are passengers who had been quarantined on the Diamond Princess cruise ship then repatriated. Three evacuees from Wuhan also tested positive for the coronavirus.

2020欧洲杯体育平台Nineteen states have reported cases, but in one of those states, Nebraska, the infections are only among repatriated citizens. 

The coronavirus causes a respiratory disease known as COVID-19. More than 3,300 people have died and nearly 98,000 others have been infected, about 83% of whom are in China. Cases have been recorded in at least 90 countries.

Here's everything we know about the cases in the US.

The most recent US death from the coronavirus was reported in King County, Washington. County health officials confirmed the victim was a woman in her 90s.

The first death — a man in his 50s who had chronic underlying health issues — was reported on Saturday at EvergreenHealth, a hospital in King County, Washington.

The California death, announced on March 4, was a female patient at Kaiser Permanente in Placer County.

Public-health officials think the woman was likely exposed to the coronavirus in February on a Princess Cruise ship that went from San Francisco to Mexico. Passengers who remained onboard after the last voyage have been told to stay in their rooms until they're cleared by medical staff. Many are showing symptoms.

The ship is headed for San Francisco but will not immediately dock, Gov. Gavin Newsom said on Wednesday.

"While we have expected more cases, this death is an unfortunate milestone in our efforts to fight this disease, and one that we never wanted to see," Aimee Sisson, Placer County's health officer, said in a statement. 

Washington has confirmed at least 70 cases of the virus and 11 deaths. Several patients are residents of a nursing facility in King County.

Many of the Washington deaths have been among residents of a long-term care facility called Life Care Center, where more than 50 residents and staff members have shown symptoms of the virus.

2020欧洲杯体育平台King County has confirmed 51 cases and 10 deaths thus far. Snohomish County has confirmed an additional 18 cases and one death. 

2020欧洲杯体育平台On Saturday, Washington Gov. Jay Inslee declared a state of emergency. The CDC said it might recommend canceling large public events in Washington state if the virus spreads further there. 

California has confirmed at least 61 cases.

San Francisco's Director of Health, Grant Colfax, said the two cases are indicative of .

2020欧洲杯体育平台One patient is a man in his 90s with underlying health conditions, and the other is a woman in her 40s; neither had been in contact with a coronavirus patient or had a travel history in affected countries.

2020欧洲杯体育平台Across California, cases have been confirmed in the following counties: Alameda, Contra Costa, Humboldt, Los Angeles (which confirmed six new cases on March 4), Orange, Placer (where one patient died), Sacramento, San Benito, San Francisco, San Mateo, Santa Clara (which confirmed 20 cases on March 5), Solano, and Sonoma.

The other cases in California were either passengers on the Diamond Princess cruise ship or evacuees from Wuhan.

Japanese authorities imposed a 14-day quarantine on the cruise ship after a person tested positive for the coronavirus, but at least 700 people wound up with COVID-19.

Two weeks ago, 328 Americans who were on the ship were flown back to the US. On the evacuation flight, 14 US citizens who'd tested positive for the virus flew in an isolation box, while others who'd been on the ship sat in a separate area. More than 30 additional people later got sick.

Infected passengers from the cruise ship were taken to the University of Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha, Nebraska and to the Providence Sacred Heart Medical Center in Spokane, Washington. 

2020欧洲杯体育平台Passengers who tested negative were quarantined at two US military bases — the Travis Air Force Base in Fairfield, California, and the Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio, Texas. Most were released on Monday.

Texas has reported five coronavirus cases.

On March 5, the Harris County Office of Homeland Security & Emergency Management . The patient is a male aged between 60 and 70 from Harris County.

On March 4, Fort Bend County Health & Human Services its first presumptive positive case of COVID-19. The individual is a man in his 70s who recently traveled abroad. 

The CDC also released an evacuee from Wuhan who had been quarantined in isolation at a medical facility in San Antonio, Texas. The patient was re-admitted hours later after one of their tests was "determined to be weakly positive."

The patient's first two tests had come back negative, which prompted the CDC to release them from quarantine. After the third test's positive results, CDC officials retrieved the patient and placed them back into medical isolation.

Maryland confirmed its first three coronavirus cases on March 5. They contracted the virus while traveling overseas.

"The patients, who contracted the virus while traveling overseas, are in good condition. We have been actively preparing for this situation over the last several weeks across all levels of government. I encourage all Marylanders not to panic, but to take this seriously and to stay informed as we continue to provide updates."

Hogan declared a state of emergency on Thursday in order to tackle the state's outbreak.

Colorado also confirmed its first two cases on March 5.

The department provided on one of the patients: a man in his 30s who had contact with a known case of COVID-19. The man is in isolation in the Denver metro area. 

2020欧洲杯体育平台"We are hopeful that the patient will have a swift recovery," Jill Hunsaker Ryan, executive director at the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment, said in a statement. "Like other states, we expected to begin seeing cases in Colorado and that is why we have been preparing for the past couple of months, in conjunction with local public health agencies and healthcare partners. Our goals are to protect the public from the disease, get people the care they need, and minimize disruption to daily lives."


New York has reported 22 cases, four of which are hospitalized. One patient, a 50-year-old male attorney, infected nine others.

The first case was a 39-year-old Manhattan healthcare worker who had recently traveled to Iran. In a press briefing on Wednesday, Gov. Andrew Cuomo said the woman's condition had improved. 

Cuomo confirmed the second New York case on Tuesday: a 50-year-old male attorney from Westchester who works in Manhattan. He was in serious condition, but Cuomo said he was "getting better" on Thursday. Business Insider confirmed the identity of the patient, a married father of four.

2020欧洲杯体育平台The man's wife, 14-year-old daughter, and 22-year-old son were all diagnosed with the virus on Wednesday, along with his neighbor, friend, that friend's wife, and three of their four children. 

2020欧洲杯体育平台On Thursday Cuomo said eight more people who had contact with the man were diagnosed as well. Another patient on Long Island in Nassau County has been diagnosed as well. 

Mayor Bill de Blasio also on Thursday: a man in his 40s and a woman in her 80s, both of whom are in intensive care. Neither patient had a travel history to China or known contact with a local COVID-19 patient.

2020欧洲杯体育平台"Our single greatest challenge is the lack of fast federal action to increase testing capacity — without that, we cannot beat this epidemic back," de Blasio wrote on Twitter.


New Jersey has reported two presumptive cases with no known connection to one another.

2020欧洲杯体育平台Governor Phil Murphy announced the first case — a man in his 30s who was hospitalized at Hackensack University Medical Center in Bergen County, New Jersey — on Wednesday. The man is a healthcare worker who lives in Manhattan, but has an apartment in Fort Lee, New Jersey.

The second case is a patient at Englewood Health, another hospital in Bergen County. The patient has no known connection to the first case.

Tennessee reported its first case on Thursday: a 44-year-old male who recently traveled out of state.

The man was diagnosed in Williamson County, part of the Nashville metropolitan area. Health officials said he returned from an out-of-state trip less than a week ago.

Illinois has confirmed five cases: two sets of spouses in Chicago and a man in his 20s.

The first Chicago case, a woman in her 60s, traveled to Wuhan in December to care for her elderly father. She returned to Chicago on January 13, then infected her husband. 

2020欧洲杯体育平台The third and fourth cases — a  husband and wife in their 70s — were reported on Monday. State health officials said both patients were doing well. 

2020欧洲杯体育平台The fifth case, announced Thursday, is a Cook County man in his 20s who had recently traveled to Italy. He flew into Chicago O'Hare International Airport earlier this month. 

New Hampshire has reported two cases. The first patient was told to stay isolated, but attended an event at Dartmouth business school.

2020欧洲杯体育平台The first patient is an employee at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon, New Hampshire. The patient recently traveled to Italy and was told to isolate after testing positive for the virus. But on Friday, the patient attended a private event at Dartmouth's business school.

The event had , NBC reported. Those who came in close contact with the patient are being asked to stay home for two weeks. 

The second New Hampshire patient, an adult male, tested positive after being in close contact with the first patient.

Oregon has reported three cases: two adults in Washington County and a casino worker in Umatilla County.

2020欧洲杯体育平台The first patient is an adult in Washington County who tested positive for the virus at Kaiser Permanente Westside Medical Center. Officials said the patient worked at the Forest Hills Elementary School in Clackamas County and appeared to have acquired the virus through community spread.

The second patient, another adult in Washington County, is being quarantined at home.

2020欧洲杯体育平台The third patient is a casino worker who was taken to the hospital after attending a youth basketball game at a local middle school in Umatilla County.

On Tuesday, North Carolina Gov. Roy Cooper reported that a resident of the state had tested positive for the virus.

The patient is currently isolated in their Wake County home, Cooper said. North Carolina officials said the patient contracted the virus after visiting the Life Care Center in the Seattle area.

On Monday, health officials in Georgia said a couple in Atlanta tested positive for coronavirus after returning from a trip to Italy.

2020欧洲杯体育平台The couple lives in Fulton County. Their conditions are not severe enough to require hospitalization, so they are being isolated at home. 

Florida health officials announced two probable cases of the virus on Sunday.

The first patient is a man in his 60s in Manatee County. The second is a woman in her 20s in Hillsborough County who recently traveled to Italy.

Rhode Island also has two probable cases.

A case in Wisconsin was confirmed on February 5. The patient was recently declared healthy and released from isolation.

The patient — who had a history of travel to Beijing, China — was released from isolation on February 28.

2020欧洲杯体育平台Officials from the Madison and Dane County public health department said the patient was tested for the virus every other day for two weeks. After the last two tests came back negative, the patient was cleared to resume normal activities. 

Massachusetts reported two cases: a man who'd returned from Wuhan and a woman in her 20s who had recently traveled to Italy.

The second case — a presumptive positive since the patient's sample was still being sent to the CDC for confirmation — by the Massachusetts Department of Public Health. 

The patient is a woman in her 20s who lives in Norfolk County. She recently traveled to Italy with a school group and is recovering at home. 

Arizona confirmed that "a member of the Arizona State University community" was infected on January 26.

The patient had recently traveled to the US from Wuhan and was isolated in Maricopa County. Health officials said he did not live in university housing.

In total, the US government has evacuated around 800 Americans from Wuhan.

They've all been at US military bases, and many have been released.

The US has barred foreign nationals who've been in China within the prior 14 days from entering the country.

2020欧洲杯体育平台The coronavirus family is a large group of viruses that typically affect the respiratory tract. Coronaviruses can lead to illnesses such as the common cold, pneumonia, and SARS. A found that around 80% of coronavirus cases in China have been mild.

The CDC recommends that all travelers frequently wash their hands with soap and water and scrub for at least 20 seconds. They should refrain from touching their eyes, nose, or mouth with unwashed hands.
